While Malacañang Palace - Residence of the President of the Philippines declares:
“MALACAÑANG HAS “NO POLICY”AGAINST GUESTS WEARING A BURQA, A GARMENT THAT EXCEPT FOR HER EYES COVERS A MUSLIM WOMAN FROM HEAD TO FOOT."
In contrary, Universidad de Zamboanga not merely IMPEDED THEIR NIQAABI STUDENTS TO ENROLL therein but also prohibits their alumna wearing niqaab to enter her alma mater’s premises.
The UZ-Niqaabi Alumna cum Predecessor Sis AISA HUSIN, a BS Pharmacy graduate of UZ was allegedly impeded by the UZ security guards to enter UZ Main Campus lately this afternoon of 30 June 2012 because she wears niqaab. Sis Aisa who just graduated at UZ last May 10, 2012 was about to attend her review for Pharmacy Licensure Examination held at IMC, 5th floor, UZ Main Campus, Tetuan, Zamboanga City when the incident was transpired.
Accordingly, sis Aisa was almost already one month attending the aforementioned review thereat and only today she was prevented to enter the said premises merely she wears niqaab. It is noteworthy that Sis Aisa Husin was indeed a niqaabi since in her sophomore level in the said university.

The following are guidelines which were recommended by the UZ VPAA Bashiruddin A. Ajihil, Ed. D. in a letter addressed to the late UZ President and CEO Artuto F. Eustaquio III, Ph.D. dated 07 June 2010 apropos to the case of Muslima studes wearing niqaab of School of Allied Medicine Department of Universidad de Zamboanga; without any hesitation was signed and approved by the late UZ President and CEO to be a--
"PART OF THE POLICIES OF UNIVERSITY IN MATTER OF ADMISSION AND SECURITY."
To wit:
1.) The concerned student upon entering the school campus must present her IDENTIFICATION CARD and SIGN IN THE LOGBOOK. A specimen signature must therefore be provided the security administrator. If need be, the FEMALE guard can request to OPEN or UNVEIL the face in the guard room/place where there is no other person except the concerned student and the female guard.
2.) In the classroom, the female faculty member can request to open or unveil the face only in her presence. The male faculty member may request any female student in his behalf to check the identity of the person behind the veil especially during examination if the teacher is in doubt.
3.) Any means possible to check the true identity of the person behind the veil maybe employed without offending the religious sensitivity of the student concerned. Therefore, utmost courtesy and respect must be observed in doing so.
Unfortunately, it is so sad to note that even if the late President and CEO of Universidad de Zamboanga has signed and approved that the afore-stated policies be a-- "PART OF THE POLICIES OF UNIVERSITY IN MATTER OF ADMISSION AND SECURITY." some UZ personnel dared to defy his order. How woeful that they did not heed his words while he was alive; how devastating that in his death indeed they even have more reason not to albeit we don't know the logic in their reasoning. It is exhilarating to learn that the late President and CEO of Universidad de Zamboanga was, Mashaa' Allah, a Hijaab-Niqaab defender in his lifetime, a Protector of Islam and Religious Freedom for ALL.
Baarakallaahu feekum wa jazaakallaahu khayran :)
